Change is inevitable!

Well, following the same principle, the Department of Journalism at St. Xavier’s College Mapusa-Goa introduces its new blog www.xaviersjournalism.wordpress.com

The change has been initiated to facilitate better interaction between the department and the various public(s) – students, parents, colleges, universities and many more.

The new blog will be used for all further official communication about the department as well as college activities.

ADMISSION OPEN – B.A. in Journalism at St. Xavier’s College

Applications are invited for the course B.A. in Journalism for the Academic year 2013-14 at The School of Media Studies, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa-Goa. The prospectus/application forms are available in the College office. Completed application forms should be submitted in the college office after obtaining Std. XII Marks card. The course will begin in in the second week of June 2013.
Applicants must be Std. XII passed with Minimum 50% Marks (in any discipline) from any recognized Board of Education.
Students seeking admission will be selected on merit and personal interview conducted by the School of Media studies on the day of admission. Students will be tested on creativity, interest in the varied fields of media like news reporting, feature writing, anchoring, photography, Video editing etc.
The documents required at the time of admission are:
  1. Mark sheet of 12 standard: (Original + 2 attested copies)
  2. Leaving certificate of Higher Secondary School ( Original + 1 attested copy)
  3. Three recent passport size photograph
  4. Provisional eligibility, Migration, passing certificate from other Boards outside Goa.

'CALAMUS' is back!




After a successful event last year, the Department of Journalism at St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa proudly presents to you another edition of ‘Calamus – Where we Speak for Ourselves.”

The one day inter-collegiate event will be held on the 23th February, 2013 at the College Seminar Hall. This event is a platform for students to explore their innovative and expressive minds; and to showcase their skills and talents.

Late Prof. P.V. Tarakant Memorial Volleyball tournament held at Xavier's




Fr. Agnel College, Pilar won the Late Prof. P.V. Tarakant Memorial inter-collegiate volleyball tournament for women on Monday. The one-day tournament was organized by St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa in their premises as part of their Golden Jubilee celebrations.

In the final Fr. Agnel’s defeated hosts St. Xavier’s College in straight sets 25-22, 25-21. Earlier in the semis Fr. Agnel’s beat Carmel College, Nuvem while Xavier’s got the better of Rosary College, Navelim.

A total of seven teams participated in the tournament.

Chief guest Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa, Principal of St. Xavier’s College distributed the prizes. In his address to the participants, Fr. Walter praises the efforts put in by the players. He also highlighted the contribution of Late Prof. P.V. Tarakant, first physical education director of St. Xavier’s College. “Prof. Tarakant was very enthusiastic and his contribution towards sports was not only for the college but also the state. He initiated and organized several tournaments in his days,” Fr. Walter said.

Xavier’s Reunion 2013



St. Xavier’s Alumni Association takes pride in presenting to you Xavier’s Reunion 2013, the first ever official alumni reunion to be organized by St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa. The event will be held on 12th January 2013 at Emerald Laws, Parra from 6pm onward. The attempt is to bring all the college alumni and ex-teachers together at one place where they could interact with each other and bring back their nostalgic moments of St. Xavier’s College. However, the event is not restricted to alumni and ex-teachers; it is open to all. Besides dine and dance, there will be entertainment programmes and loads of surprises.
